Sylma Fine, MA, LMFT, LPAT, ATR-BC
Sylma Fine is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in New Mexico and California and a Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) in New Mexico.
She completed her undergraduate training in African Languages and Psychology at the University of Cape Town in her native South Africa and her Master’s Degree in Psychology and Art Therapy at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA.
Her cross-industry experience includes training at Stanford University Hospital Medical Center in the adolescent psychiatric unit, as well as supervising intern therapists and teaching at the graduate school level. Her accomplishments in the field of psychotherapy involve experience in both the private and public sector, in private practice, program development and staff training in residential settings, county substance abuse, and at the high school level.
She has an in depth knowledge of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT intensive training and leader of several consultation teams) as well as Art Therapy – she holds national certification as a Registered Board Certified Art therapist and has on several occasions presented workshops at the American Art Therapy Association’s annual conferences. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and continues her learning in multiple counseling theories and practices on an ongoing basis. Sylma moved from California to Albuquerque to enjoy living in the space of the Southwest. Her role as a mother of three continues to be informed by creative parenting and learning from her children.
